Best Activities in Edinburgh for the Summer Bank Holiday

Bank Holiday Weekend

In Edinburgh, where Bon Accord is based, we are gearing up for a fun-filled bank holiday weekend! Summer is in full swing here, which means there are loads of festivals and events right around the corner. Whether you’re looking to chill out with some great food & drink, take in some art, or even discover dinosaurs - we’ve found something for everyone in the family to enjoy!

Edinburgh Art Festival

28 July 2022 - 28 August 2022

The Edinburgh Art Festival is returning for its 18th anniversary, with 35 exhibitions across Edinburgh. The festival highlights the best of visual art created within the UK and internationally, with the majority of exhibits and activities free to enter! Head to their website to see their full festival guide and check out their events for children and families. As a sponsor of the festival, we’ll be attending its launch on the 28th July so pop on down and see if you can spot us!

Edinburgh Food Festival

22nd - 31st July

Coming to the end of its 10-day run, Edinburgh Food Festival in George Square Gardens will be open until Sunday 31st July. The festival features the best of Scottish food & drink, including lots of veggie and vegan options - we’re a particular fan of Mana Poke Bowls! George Square Gardens is a perfect hang-out for all ages, with lots of space for the kids to run around whilst the adults kick back and relax. Best of all, the festival is free to enter!

Edinburgh Zoo After Hours

1st July to 6th August 2022

Edinburgh Zoo After Hours immerses us right into the Jurassic age. Wander through the zoo and watch as these prehistoric timorous beasties spring to life around you

One for the kids and big kids alike, Edinburgh Zoo offers acoustic music, face painting, kids’ entertainment, outdoor games, as well as a host of adults-only After Hours events for those of us who are still firmly in our dino phase. The event runs until the first week of August, so get your explorer hats on. Tickets are available to purchase via Eventbrite

Foreplay Crazy Golf Edinburgh Pop-Up

One for the adults: Foreplay Crazy Golf Pop-Up on Picardy place. Always a guaranteed hit with groups or even for a bank-holiday date night.

The venue pairs a round of mini golf with cocktails from the best in Edinburgh’s beverage scene and delicious street food from Luxford Burgers. The courses are inspired by Edinburgh’s sights, which you can see for yourself whilst chilling out on their new summer terrace, which features a live DJ every Saturday (and some heaters for that unpredictable Scottish weather). Bonus: they’re handing out free cocktails after your game whenever the weather hits 20 degrees! The offer runs until Sunday 31st July. They advise booking ahead so you don’t miss your tee time!

Foreplay Crazy Golf also has their original Glasgow location for those of you who aren’t based in the capital.
