National Drink A Glass Of Wine Day

National drink a glass of wine day is soon upon us, who knew that February 18th was such a glorious day?! If you’re in the market for a glass of wine in our home town of Edinburgh, or to share a bottle (or two) among friends in the comfort of your own home, we’ve collated our top picks of where to grab your vino!

Out and about: Piggs

Piggs have dubbed themselves the home of Spanish wine and tapas in Edinburgh. And, with over 80% of their reviews on Trip Advisor being ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, we’ve decided that they’re definitely worthy of that title.

Located on the Royal Mile in the heart of Edinburgh’s old town, Piggs houses just six tables, ensuring that any and every experience is inviting and intimate. The venue, run by the Campos brothers, source the majority of their produce from Spain. However, for their ingredients with a shorter shelf life, only the best of local Scottish produce is used! In this way, the brothers aim to produce authentic Spanish tapas of the highest quality.

Out and about: The Art Club

Did you really enjoy painting in your youth and have since been wanting to tap into your artistic side? Along with hosting art classes for adults and children alike, The Art Club (📌 Canonmills) hosts Wine and Paint events every Saturday! Whether you’re planning to go alone or with a few pals, The Art Club is sure to provide a great night.

Open to all (including beginners), The Art Club provides nibbles, wine and all of the materials you’ll need to create a masterpiece. The subject of the classes vary. From one week to the next you could be creating an original work based on a picture of the Scottish Coastline, or re-creating the likes of Matisse!

Out and about and/or Wine at home: Good Brothers

Located in Stockbridge, Good Brothers offers incredible wine to sit in or takeaway. Sustainability is incredibly important to Good Brothers, and owner Graeme has previously stated that the company likes to know the people they work with. These factors have meant that Good Brothers predominantly work with small businesses, ensuring both incredible quality and a menu that reflects seasonal changes. Consider your next date night, sorted ✅

Wine at home: The Bon Vivant’s Companion

Brought to you by the creators of El Cartel, The Devil’s Advocate and Lady Libertine, The Bon Vivant’s Companion is the perfect spot to pick up everything you need to host a wine night. This modern take on a traditional wine and spirit merchant houses over 300 wines from around the globe.

The staff highly suggest popping in, and are ready to answer any questions you may have about food pairings and their range. In addition, if you like wine but are worried about being overwhelmed by choice or technical jargon (how can a wine breathe, it doesn’t even have lungs?), the shop also has the option to have a blind date with a bottle with their wine roulette section! Here, bottles at different price points are wrapped up in brown paper and given a brief description - there’s a reason brown paper packages tied up with string are one of our favourite things 😉

Wine at home: Leith Bottle Shop

Although they’re more well known for selling local beer, Leith Bottle Shop (📌 Foot of the Walk) also sells a selection of great wines to get your fix this ‘drink a glass of wine day’. In addition to their groovy storefront, Leith Bottle Shop runs in store tastings (almost) every Thursday from 6pm. These tastings are run directly by the producers, meaning that they should be able to answer all of your burning questions about their products!

(p.s if you’re a beer lover, all of their beers are chilled and ready for consumption if the sun decides to make an appearance at the shore)

Well there you have it, some of our top picks for where to grab your wine in time for the 18th! If you’re on the hunt for even more recommendations, we highly recommend Vino Wines (📌 Southside) (📌Stockbridge) (📌 Broughton Street) and Appellation Wines (📌Comely Bank). And, if wine isn’t your thing, remember you can always pick up juice from our website 😉
